Carburetors are my nemesis. I own so many I don’t have a total count. They range from Mercury boat motor carbs, to Sunbeam Alpine WIP carbs to those on my generator, snowblower and powerwasher. The Alpine sits in the garage more than it is driven. I start it up during the winter but the carbs still get varnish. I do the same for the generator and snowblower and on those I’ll turn off the fuel line to let them burn off the gas in the carbs before I store them. The boat motors each fall I’ll fog with a fogging spray.
Once the carbs are dirty it’s best to dismantle and do a deep clean. On the Alpine and boat carbs I’ll boil them in Pinesol and water. Then dry them with compressed air (by the way every home should have an air compressor and power washer) and drop them in a gallon can of carb cleaner. I’ll then dry with compressed air again and reassemble them.

By the way, you don’t have to do it in the kitchen. I recently started using a cast iron dutch oven on the barbecue grill.
