Velrob shoe skis – I bet you’ve never seen these.

In the 1950s waterskiing became very popular. Post war several boat manufacturers popped up and plenty of outboard motor companies started producing 30-50hp motors. In Washington state the Velrob manufacturing company was producing water skis. These skis were popular as far away as Colorado. My mother used her first paycheck at the telephone company where she worked to buy her Velrob slalom ski at Dave Cook’s Sporting Goods in downtown Denver. I’ve been collecting these skis to display and restore for use. I recently saw these shoe skis for sale on Craigslist and snatched them up because I could tell they are original. They may be later than the 1950s because of the black bindings. I’ve heard othe manufacturers started using the black bindings because then rubber would last longer. This is the first set I’ve ever seen that have the Velrob name on the toe. All the others I have say Tournament on the toe and only mention Roy Warnock on the heel.
