Don’t fact check me, but I’m pretty sure Ken Miles felt the Alpine was over-carbureted. But those two Zenith downdrafts do look pretty cute on the 1.6 liter four cylinder. Spark, fuel and air ratios need to be dialed in just right to get the most performance. These carbs drop a lot of fuel inContinue reading “Intake Manifold Drain”

Rusty gas tank cleaning
If you own a classic car, you know how rusty a gas tank can be. I cleaned and restored the gas tank in my Sunbeam Alpine. Do I recommend doing it? Yes, but it’s not a job everyone can do. I’ve owned this car for over 20 years and had a guy “clean” the tankContinue reading “Rusty gas tank cleaning”
Build Adirondack Chairs with Water Skis
Being a snow and water skier I’ve seen tons of Adirondack chairs made with old rental skis. People even sell them online, but they really leave something to be desired. For example, this snow ski chair looks sort of cool but the arm angle doesn’t seem right and the only way to use the footrestContinue reading “Build Adirondack Chairs with Water Skis”
Cloud White vs Wimbledon White
When looking to paint my old white Mercury outboards I bought some cloud white from a boat specialist. I later heard that wimbledon white was a perfect match. Wimbledon white was used on Ford cars for decades and you can find it at Walmart. But when I looked at them side by side they areContinue reading “Cloud White vs Wimbledon White”
Resurrecting Carburetors
I went to buy a part from a guy and he wouldn’t sell me only what I wanted. He said I had to buy everything he had or nothing. So clearly I ended up with everything which meant I ended up with three parts motors and I have a hard time throwing things away. IContinue reading “Resurrecting Carburetors”
Glasspar G3 gel coat repair
My Glasspar G3 has the original finish. There are spider cracks and little blemishes like the one pictured. I picked up some fiberglass and peeled out some strands. I mixed some West epoxy and tinted it with pure white. I am actually surprised at how easy this was to do. The color match is prettyContinue reading “Glasspar G3 gel coat repair”

Nautical antiques store
I ran across this store when someone was asking for recommendations in Michigan. Seems like a place you could spend a lot of time browsing. Northern Boater It’s across the bay on the Leelanau Peninsula, very pretty over there once you get though Traverse city. Doug Hart and his wife own it. Sleeping Bear SandContinue reading “Nautical antiques store”
Restored Aqua-Glide Skis
These skis are older than 1957. Probably 1955. I didn’t think much of them for most of my life. They were just a set of skis my dad used to teach people on. After I started taking care of his boat and skis I started to realize the different brand skis he had and howContinue reading “Restored Aqua-Glide Skis”
Velrob trick skis
I picked these up from a friend. My father skied on them in the late 1950s and I’m going to relaminate them, restore them and then ski on them. At first I thought I’d put on modern bindings but I am now looking to restore the bindings too.
